Should I change hands and or fingers every day in checking blood sugar?

I sometimes get a wide margin in numbers between the 2 handsShould I change hands and or fingers every day in checking blood sugar? Are you washing your hands prior to testing?

Sometimes there is residual glucose on the fingertips that gives a false high reading.

And YES you should be rotating fingers with each test. I know it can become comfortable to use a favourite hand or finger but you can be damaging the blood vessels under the skin and over a prolonged period of time may lead to a loss of sensation in your fingertips. You can also develop calluses on the fingers from repeated testing.

I was taught that just as you must rotate your insulin injection sites you should also rotate your testing sites (which should be all 10 fingers!).

Good luck.Should I change hands and or fingers every day in checking blood sugar?Yes you should change your hands often. This way your fingers don't get calluses (sorry about spelling). When you check in the same spot over and over again your finger will begin to callus and you won't be able to get blood from that finger very easily. I highly suggest changing fingers between checks. Like the above person said...make sure you wash your hands before testing. This can totally change results.Should I change hands and or fingers every day in checking blood sugar? The numbers will vary from finger to finger and from hand to hand. That is normal. You may get a different number testing your forearm then testing a finger on the same arm. Glucometers are not 100% accurate (but are close enough for home monitoring). The number could be 5-10% off, in addition your blood sugar level is constantly fluctuating throughout your body based on the needs of your cells, and changes even more so in a person with diabetes based on their medication, what they ate, and what other medications they have taken etc etc

So, just test when your doctor has told you to check, but you don't have to check multiple sites each time.Should I change hands and or fingers every day in checking blood sugar?Yes, you should rotate pricking your finger for your blood sugar tests (as well as sites where you give your insulin shots if you are having to do this also). When you stay with one finger and the same place, then it will bruise as well as build up a callous in that location and will get harder to test there later. I generally change fingers but I know it is easier for me to test on my right hand because I am left handed. With practice you will be able to do it either handed depending on which side of the finger you go with too. And you should use the alcohol swabs before each time also, letting it dry before you test on your fingers or before the shots.Should I change hands and or fingers every day in checking blood sugar?I am in the Medical Field

You hands have NOTHING to do with the reading..

Your blood sugar changes EVERY second . If you are getting WIDE ranges say for example from 118 to 245 within say 30 minutes it is either due to food or drink consummation or activity

You should also TEST your meter to make sure that it is working correctly

Ex is a diabetic and I specialized in diabetes patients during my INTERNSHIPShould I change hands and or fingers every day in checking blood sugar?Yes,also you have a variety of areas on each finger.Wash your hands before(don`t want any lotion, food residue, whatever to effect the reading). It takes some dexterity to click with your non-dominant hand.Make sure that the blood sample is adequate.Reading doesn`t seem right?First thing to do is to take the blood sugar over again.Should I change hands and or fingers every day in checking blood sugar?yeah. vary it. it also stops u building up calluses on your fingers. make sure u wash your hands to definately get a clear reading. dont use alcohol wipes as they dry the finger out after a while and make it hard to get blood out
